Since the rejection to vote occurred. a group led by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony was created called, The National Woman’s Suffrage Association (NWSA). In this organization they focused exclusively on women’s rights and fought for a federal suffrage movement.

Early reformers of the woman’s suffrage movement argued that God created men and women equally, and they should receive the same education as males, and same rights (Chapman, 2011). Women eventually were allowed full voting rights only in the state of Wyoming in the year 1869. In the West women began to have more opportunities and rights.

The Progressive Era was created shortly after the Civil War when workers, farmers and urban progressive workers worked together to clean up politics, fight poverty, and regulate corporations (Henretta, 2012).The economy at this time was growing rapidly, as millions of immigrants came over and found places within the economy to work.

By the 19th century, women had more independent roles within the family and in public life. By 1920, women made up half of the employees of low-level office jobs, and began to work in many other jobs such as retail, and as phone operators.
