Students will be asked to compare the content of the serious case reviews and identify the key issues as well as analysing the media response to the cases covered by the reviews.
Guidelines
You will look at two case reviews, (you may give greater emphasis to one case if you wish, just say that you are going to do so in the introduction) but you must refer to both cases. Do not get too bogged down in the introduction on the description of the cases.
A short introduction about the cases and then look at
serious case reviews in general. (What is a SCR / SAR, when do they take place, what do we hope to gain from them, comment on the expected quality of the report and how quality is monitored).
Pick out the common issues you identify in the serious case
reviews, e.g., the professionals involved, the level and quality of the social work intervention (you do not have go into theory in any great detail); just comment on what could have been done differently as identified in the SCR / SAR, the level and quality of multi-disciplinary work. Remember to note any good practice identified.
Comment on the media coverage of the cases-How did the media portray professionals involved in the cases? What comments were made about how the cases were handled? If there is none, note that some cases attract the media (say why) and others do not.
The quality of the recommendations (Do the recommendations address the key concerns raised in the reports? Were there common recommendations?
