The health care issue I am addressing from a particular stakeholder organization is behavioralhealth. “Behavioral health is a term that covers the full range of mental and emotional well-being– from the basics of how we cope with day-to-day challenges of life, to the treatment of mental illnesses, such as depression or personality disorder, as well as substance use disorder and other addictive behaviors.” (Carolina’s Healthcare System, 2015) The stakeholder of the organization is being represented by the executive committee of the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC). PCPCC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to transforming healthcare to make it a more effective system. The executive committee is head over PCPCC’s five Stakeholder Centers which are targeted towards specific groups of people. One of the groupsthat PCPCC is an assembler for is the Behavioral Health Special Interest Group (SIG) which works collaboratively with the Stakeholder Centers. “The SIG is open to general members, led by an advisory team of experts to provide informal network and educational opportunities arounda specific topic.” (PCPCC, 2014)The Behavioral Health SIG hopes to integrate behavioral and mental health within primary care and the patient-centered medical home (PCMH). According to the PCPCC website, integrated behavioral health means that primary care and behavioral health clinicians work together with patients and families using a cost-effective approach to provide patient-centered care for a distinct population. (PCPCC, 2014) Physical issues and mental issues are said to be thecause of one another and it complicates services even more when they have to be treated separately. They explain that behavioral health is highly prevalent in primary care.
