Tybalt and Curley are characters in William Shakespeare’s book Juliet and Romeo. Much as the two characters are seen to be secondary one’s, their roles in this book are of much importance. In the book Tybalt is an aggressive person who is Lord Capulet’s nephew and cousin to Juliet. Curley on the other hand is the book’s mean character who is son to a ranch owner. Shakespeare uses the two of them to enhance several themes in the book. They also help in giving a comparison between the book and real life because of the unique roles that they play.

The two texts are different in that the play is much shorter as compared to novella. The novella is seen to be more dwelt on a great deal of fiction. In addition, the play is more direct as compared to novella which gives much information that is detailed. The two can be said to be a different style of fiction in that the novella is lengthier. Hence, it means that the novella gives the audience a chance to learn more about a character in a wide perspective. It further means that in the novella one has to give much concentration in order to fully understand its inner deep meaning because of its complexity. The play on the other side is much direct and straight to the point. Therefore, it means that it is easily understandable and requires little effort to understand it. The plays nature of being easily understandable means that its major target are people from humble social backgrounds. The novella on the other side is targeted to people from high social standing. They could be the people who are highly learned and are able to read a piece of work and interpret it word by word. However, despite of this differences, the two texts are related in some ways. This is by the fact that they are both able to explore the themes of anger and masculinity through Tybalt and Curley. The two are able to do this by putting this themes as their first priority. They incorporate in their setting a situation whereby the themes are clearly seen and brought out by the two given characters. For example, a play uses a tone of anger in areas where the two are angered. Novella on the other side gives an explanation of the character’s reactions to various situations as a way of bringing forward the anger and feel of masculinity portrayed by Tybalt and Curley.

The writers are writing about Tybalt and Curley because they bring so much impact to the book. Their roles and character is used as the main basis for the development of some themes like anger and masculinity. The writers also write about the men because they are seen to have many similar characteristics as compared to any other characters in the book. Tybalt and Curley fit perfectly into the narrative because they are given unique roles to play. They further fit into the narrative through being at the center of the most activities that take place in the narrative despite of the fact they are both considered as minor characters.

Tybalt and Curley add to the challenges of masculinity in that they perfectly bring out some of the challenges that the masculine gender faces. Tybalt’s romance turning to a bitter one due to his anger is one of the ways in which they add into the challenges of masculinity. Further, in regards to the fact that the two men never gives in and hate to be defeated adds the challenges. In the narrative, challenges to masculinity are added by the two characters by them failing to avoid dangerous situations simply because they believe that they are masculine. Tybalt is killed by Romeo when he approaches him. He could have avoided this by not confronting Romeo but his ego would not allow him do so.

As the text progresses, the characters of the two change. They change in such a way that their anger and hot tempered nature become so strong and developed in them. At first, they are seen to be able to control their anger but this changes to a level that they no longer can. They confront and address most people with anger and are also seen to be moved to doing unreasonable things as a result of this anger.

Tybalt and Curley are similar in that they are both hot- tempered. Curley’s tempers are demonstrated in the way he likes picking fights with guys that are much bigger than him. The two characters are also portrayed as courageous throughout the book. This is evidenced in many chapters of the book where the two are seen to strongly defend themselves and fight for what they believe they deserve. Tybalt’s courageousness can be seen in the way he challenges Romeo without the fear that Romeo is more powerful than him. Tybalt and Curley like are also similar in that they both love to be involved in fights.
