The introduction should create a clear and concise thesis statement. Be explicit and passionate. Define and explore the theme and idea of ‘generational rebellion’ – were youth in 1968 simply ‘rebelling?’ – I would like your stance in this essay to be NO. – The youth of 1968 had reason to rebel, and shouldn’t be dismissed as being some kind of juvenile temper tantrum. – (Don’t use my exact wording here, just giving you a concept to work with!)

The essence of this essay will need to have a balanced for an against stance.
I would like this essay to heavily focus on the political/authoritarian/
and the really dense material to be the primary focus. These are the few protesting places that I want a lot of focus on.

o The importance of capitalism/Marxism coming into play (the attack of it)
o Political upheaval
o The hippie/bohemian movement (countering the “system”) – see below
o The essence of 1960s youth and cultural beliefs in a post-war climate
o Civil Rights movements (Racial frustrations in the USA – the rise of Black Power/Panther movements as well as death of MLK)

NOTE:
As you could see from above, ideally, primary focus should be on the heavier, political aspects of the 1968 protests. Marxism, capitalism, revolt, communism, etc. etc.

The lighter topics like female liberation, the sexual revolution, and the essence of sixties youth should still be discussed, but kept a little lighter in comparison –

• For – it was a generational rebellion – in essence, it was. This generation saw the world through new eyes.
• Against – it wasn’t a generational rebellion
The youth of 1968 should not be ostracized – it was the older generation’s fault. – They’re ideologies were flawed, and revolt was bound to happen.

There should also be some exploration of what it meant to be young person of the 1960s – what is the ‘essence’ of the 60’s?

Conclusion should sum of main arguments discussed in the essay.
