Staff diversity in an organization refers to a work force made up of unique characteristics and experiences (Yarber, Sayad & Strong, 2010). Retreating staff diversity therefore, refers to a situation in which an organization has employees with similar characteristics and experiences. The characteristics include age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion and ability among others. Identification of the causes of the problem
Various factors relating to functions of management cause retreating diversity of staff in the work force. These factors include poor communication, resistance and disorganization in an organization or business setting. This may occur in a business due to lack of office retreats, diversity meetings and seminars. Communication barrier promotes retreating diversity in the work force. Finally, Disorganization in a business also leads to retreating diversity of staff. This refers to the lack of organization in a business. Before implementing a plan manager, need to communicate the plan to the staff to prevent retreating diversity as employees need involvement the business planning. The communication may take place through meetings, conferences and memos. Disorganization relates to planning and organization functions of management. Research indicates that getting staff on board about a plan before implementations helps in promoting diversity in the work force. Employees get to experience a sense of belonging through involvement in business decisions making procedures (Hahm, 2006)
