Abstract

Our SAE formula objective this year is to get better rank in the racing competition. This season’s competition will be June 19-22, 2019 in Lincoln, Nebraska where we will be up against 79 other schools. For this year we are designing two racing car, the new car is an electrical which doesn’t need an engine. However, this semester focus on collecting ideas and designing and next semester is for building the car. So the SAE formula has been divided into two mean teams: Design team and Finance team. The design team specialized in designing and building the formula cars, and the finance team is response to provide SAE formula with sponsors to cover the designing and building cost of the car. As part of the finance team, we are responsible of raising the amount of money for the design team so they could get the parts needed to start building the cars next semester. So we are required to collect $2000 per student in order to reach the goal amount which is $150,000 approximately.

Introduction

FSAE is a competition that started 1980 at the University of Texas by the SAE. Although it has started with few number of universities, but nowadays most universities have joined the competition, and they are being pioneers in this competition. The FSAE is an organized competition which can make students in senior designs challenge their skills and improve it. Moreover, its help them to learn from their mistakes and improve their abilities. Furthermore, this competition doesn’t only focus on speed but it focus on the design, fuel pumping, safety…etc. However, teams in CSUN has been divided into sub-teams, Aero, Chassis, Controls, Electrical/DAQ, Drive train, E-car, Engine, Hardware, Machining, and Suspension. Each of these sub-teams have members from both the design and the finance teams. So it would be easier to keep in track with the project and ease the way of working between teams.

Discussion

After we choose our sub-teams with Dr. Prince and finance manager Udall, Timothy help, it was our responsibility, as team, to gather the funds needed for our teams and project. Furthermore, as we choose DAQ sub-team, we have communicate with the our sub-team in the design team to help each other in gathering information and provide each other with our needs. After discussing our goals and objective with Timothy and Essa Al-kandari, Timothy gave us the sponsorship packages which are bronze, silver, gold, and platinum each has it benefits and options. So as a DAQ finance sub-team we contacted several targets and companies. The first target were SHP Performance, this company specialized in tuning, engine rebuilding, fabricating…etc. which they are located in Kuwait City, Kuwait. This company are known by the best tuners in the city. We have contacted them because they care about student’s projects , and they have shown their interest in sponsoring the FSAE team and they have donated: $1100 for each member of our team. The second fundraising target was Al-Wasm Company which they are located in Al-Wafrah City, Kuwait. This company has donated by total of $2000, this company was really interested in helping the team. The third fundraising target was Kuwait National Insurance Company which they fund us with $1600.

Conclusion

Finally, from the finance team we have learned how to be responsible of how to fundraise projects, communicate with companies seeking for their sponsorship, and the most important is working as a group. Everyone in this team has got benefits, these benefits we could use them in the future jobs as well.
