General

We appreciate critical reflection. For example, you should feel free to solve some of the problems you need to solve in the task a ‘quick and dirty’. If you do however – you should! – make sure to add a footnote and tell us how you would have ‘ideally’ solved the problem. A second example: if you feel that your tentative first attempt to answer this question has some important drawback: please report on these.

Data preparation

– Some of the data in the file is not in a format yet in which you do analysis on it straightaway. It is part of your task to work you way around this. This will require some manual coding or maybe – only if this is where your relative strength is – a clever IT solution like a keyword/Regex search in a language of your choice. An example of such a coding would be to categorise somebody whom’s says “1989 bis 1991

Abteilungsleiter in einem Landwirtschaftsbetrieb in Eisenberg” as somebody that has a background in farming. Some more examples below.

Theory

• You can start the document with a hypothesis.

 If you know relevant theoretical or empirical references: include them! If not, don’t waste your time looking for them, just formulate a expectation that you consider ituitive. Make sure to show us your argumentation skills.

Method

• The variables that you created and will use in you analysis can be discussed in a one or two variable paragraphs where you describe them and provide some rough statistics (e.g. their mean and standard deviation).
• The analytical strategy and/or statistical method you used can shortly be described in a paragraph.

Results

• Descriptive statistics (like a graph or a table with averages) are always good to show what seems to be going on in your data.

• If you know how to use advanced statistical model, please do so, don’t waste time on this if you don’t.

Conclusion

– A conclusion in which you reflect on the extent to which the data supports your expectations helps to round up the story.
