Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to conduct and document at a beginning level, a systematic, evidence based nursing assessment and risk screen (aligns with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse: 1.1, 1.2, 2.2, 2.5, 2.6, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 8.1, 8.2, 9.2).
be able to communicate clearly with team members, both in verbal handover and in written documentation (NMBA 1.3, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, 5.1, 5.2, 6.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.5, 10.3).
be able to participate in the planning and documentation of nursing care in consultation with individuals, significant others and the interdisciplinary health care team in accordance with organisational and legal requirements (NMBA 1.1, 1.2, 2.2, 2.5, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 9.2, 10.3).
be able to provide basic health education to clients in an effective manner, including appropriate documentation (NMBA 1.2, 2.5, 2.6, 7.7, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4).
be able to describe and demonstrate safe and legal medication administration via identified routes (NMBA 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.2, 2.5, 2.6, 7.1, 7.2, 7.4, 7.8, 9.2, 9.5).
be able to demonstrate competence in calculations related to medication administration (NMBA 2.6, 7.1, 7.2, 7.4).
be able to demonstrate a broad factual knowledge base pertaining to health assessment and risk screening, maintaining and enhancing skin integrity, alteration in bowel and urinary function, pre and post operative care and patient education (NMBA 1.1, 1.2, 2.2, 2.6, 3.2, 5.1, 5.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.7).
