GED 240 Art History Unit 2 Question 2: Who are Muhammad, Abu Bakr, and Ali and what was their role in the Islamic faith? Muhammad was born in approximately 570 CE in Mecca. He, as the Prophet of Islam is believed to have started the Islamic faith by non-believers.

For the large majority of Muslims who believe in the Islamic faith he is viewed as its last prophet who was sent by God to restore Islam. Abu Bakr was Muhammad’s advisor as well as his father-in-law through the marriage of his daughter. He was one of the first to declare being Muslim outside Muhammad’s family.

At the time, this was a very important step in the Islamic faith because it was a new religion. A lot of people were skeptical and Abu Bakr was seen as a well-respected merchant, so it lent some credence in a way to the new religion.
