While the topic for this assignment can be about anything, the Professor suggests to choose a topic related to my major. My major is “Molecular and Cellular Biology: I plan on going to Medical School to become a Brain Surgeon; however, I would also like to research innovative medicine; that is, stem cell research that focuses on the restoration and development of human organs.” However, my teacher does not know my major, and frankly, he doesn’t care. Consequently, the professor said that any topic would be fine, as long as, I am able to provide support that connects back to Damasio arguments. I can confirm the topic before the Writer’s choice is final, and if possible, please provide to me a simple list/outline, or description about the game plan you will use for this essay.

Most of the information needed will be uploaded to this website, or you may refer to my Google Drive shared Folder through this link. I keep all of my files from this class neatly organized. I need to make sure that the topic you choose (check with me before following through) is able to connect to his book, “Looking for Spinoza” by Damasio. Our topic needs to be an argument, this is an “Argumentative Essay”, not an informative essay, book review, rhetorical analysis. My professor clearly emphasizes that some students in the past, have not gotten credit due to not following instructions.

I kindly ask to please keep in mind, that this is an Argument Essay, and that your argument should be able to be backed up by different points the author, Damasio, presents and argues about in this book. If you haven’t read the book (PDF attached), you honestly don’t have to. We are barely in Chapter 2 out of 7, and the professor does not plan to finish the whole book before the essay is due. He says you really don’t need to since you can research (Google) what are Damasio main arguments, and ideas. And this is true I have a few links I could also provide, or I can keep uploading to the google drive link I will share with you.

You will notice that the attachments I’ve provided have PDF files and some recordings. I’m trying to provide the clearest and most helpful information for you. You will notice notes along the margins of the PDF handouts with descriptions like “Refer to recording 7/12…” and “Min. ~1:20”. This simply means that while the teacher was reading/explaining along each handout, I recorded him and wrote down particular times when the teacher was talking about that specific area. Some of the stuff that Damasio argues about is (also found in the recording titled “7/14 Pt. 2 Essay Topic Discussion): 1) Cognition;;; 2) Emotions or Feelings;;; 3) Homeostasis.

The book pretty much talks about thoughts and feelings… and explains it through body activity; physiology. What we do mentally, how does that ties to physiology…
…Those are just some arguments Damasio makes, there may be more…

I put 10 sources, but please, feel free to use as many/little as you would like. He does not stress sources as a requirement; however as with any essay, I believe that the more sources that are used and cited, the more credible the writer and his or her argument may be.

About Me:
Here is a brief insight into my approach to writing academic papers (I expect the writer to have similar strategies):

(1) Articulate the big picture concepts clearly and succinctly in the introduction (“this is what the paper will argue, and here are the five primary reasons which will be discussed: A, B, C, D, and E”);

(2) Organize and integrate supporting information in the body paragraphs logically (“the first argument is the most basic starting point from which the rest of the paper will be organized,” “if you believe argument A, you must also believe argument B for x, y, and z reasons,” “the third argument is true because of h, i, and j, which means the strongest counter-argument, Q, must also be discounted because of r, s, and t…”); and
