Let’s say I had to write such a request for funding to travel to Calgary to learn about some new software. Rather than interacting with the software expert over Skype, or another means of communication, I feel the need to meet with them (perhaps a consultant/trainer) directly in order evaluate the practical application of the product and to allow the expert to provide me with some supervised hands-on training. In persuading my boss of the necessity of covering my trip expenses, I might point to the short time-frame I’m facing within which I’m required to become adequately competent. Another reason I might claim the trip is justifiable is because I’ll soon be responsible for providing similar training for my colleagues. A further reason may be that it’s important for me to meet with and develop a good relationship with the trainer as I may regularly need to draw upon their expertise in the future.
