I have learned a lot over the past six weeks! A big aspect of statistical analysis in any field is finding linear relationships and correlations within the data. This course provided numerous ways to find key relationships for the criteria of the problem. For me specifically, I find R to be really challenging. I am still mastering my craft and working on it every day to eventually become proficient. However, I found that Minitab is a useful resource to find the ANOVA, for example. I would have liked to have more training in Minitab for this course as well as R training that was provided by the professor. That being said, I found it beneficial to watch the R code executed step by step by the professor. I would have also liked a more thorough explanation of what the return values mean in R mean in relation to the problem we are trying to solve. I found that I executed the R code well, but had a difficult time articulating my results and finding a key relationship or lack of for that matter. However, this made me spend more time learning from online resources and the textbook, which in the end is advantageous for a real-world problem that might not be explained step by step for me in the workplace.

Part 2:

Wow, I’ve definitely been pushed to learn and apply a whole host of new statistical theories and methods. As a novice at R-studio, the weekly assignments really helped me expand into the realm of larger, more complex datasets. As Devon mentioned, R can be pretty challenging and in previous courses I always wanted to defer back to my excel basics as a quicker way to achieve the goal but in this course it became clear why R is a necessary tool for more complex analysis. My go-to is always to find video tutorials when I’m stuck on a scenario in R and so the extra video steps provided here were immensely helpful. The realm of nonparametric tests which we touched upon briefly in week 5 were a set of completely new statistical tests for me. I’m always trying to see my course work through its application to my every day job and I really appreciated that I was able to gain new insight and appreciation for the diversity of testing available. I’m often faced with cumbersome, non-numeric data and this course has given me the tools to see that information in a new, more useful way. The partnership with PersonaPanels has also been very eye-opening. I had never heard of virtual personas used for consumer research. While I don’t think I have the statistical skills just yet to answer the top-tier needs PersonaPanels is interested in solving, it was a great journey to work with a company so far outside my realm of experience.
