You will write an 8-paragraph Research Paper on how the WORKS of 2 ‘artists'(including writers, visual artists, musicians, dancers) demonstrate the aesthetic of Romanticism or the aesthetic of Modernism (for our purposes, I’m including Postmodernism & Globalism here)

FIRST, you will choose 1 of these:

A. the Aesthetic of Romanticism [19th century til approximately 1900-1910]

B. the Aesthetic of Modernism [approximately 1910-the present]

You wiU choose 1 person from each of 2 lists WITHIN THE AESTHETIC YOU HAVE CHOSEN—in other words, 1 person from List A & 1 person from List B, OR 1 person from List B & 1 person from List C, or 1 person from List A & 1 person from List C.

IF YOU CHOOSE the aesthetic of Romanticism, you must pick a person from List A: Romantic [NOT from List A: Modernism] etc.

NOT the biographies – of 2 ‘artists'(including writers, visual artists, musicians, dancers) express the aesthetic of Romanticism or the aesthetic of Modernism.

You should NOT attempt to deal with more than 3 works of each ‘artist’ – although you are free to concentrate on only 1 work of each ‘artist.’ REMEMBER: You must choose each of the 2 ‘artists’ from DIFFERENT LISTS!

You need to give specific examples of how their works ‘speak’ to demonstrate the Aesthetic you’ve chosen. I WILL NOT ACCEPT GENERIC WRITING THAT DOES NOT GIVE SPECIFIC EXAMPLES.

IT WILL BE BEST IF YOU FIND 3 SIMILAR TRAITS of Romanticism that BOTH of your

‘artists’ share, such as: (1) use of mythology or the supernatural (2) use of rebellion (3) use of altered states of consciousness.
