For the second writing assignment, you can write on any topic of American history from 1900 to the present. However, I strongly suggest that you avoid anything in the last 15 years or so because in many cases there is still discoveries being made on why events occurred and books / journal articles that you would use as references are still being written. Other than that, I am really free with what you opt to write on and I find that if I tell you what to write that you will enjoy it less than if you pick your own topic. Enjoy.
