Three online databases were used in order to find relevant papers that allow for an understanding of the future of day surgery. The databases used were Medline, Scopus and the British association of day surgery (BADS). The first two databases were accessed via the University of Liverpool’s library website whereas the latter was accessed directly from the BADS website.
When searching using the online databases an inclusion criterion was used in order to assure that the articles were relevant and recent. There was confidence of the quality of the articles due to the fact that there were found using these well respected databases. The inclusion criteria used specified that literature was not dated before January 2000 (10 years ago), that the literature is in English language and that the literature applies to humans.
It was also important that only primary data such as randomized controlled trials and case reports were looked at in order to fulfil the criteria of a structured review. When using Medline the keywords search only was used. The tool used………….
