In March 2016, Canada’s Ministry of Finance established an Advisory Council on Economic Growth to aid in developing policy meant to improve Canada’s prospects for long-run economic growth. On October 20, 2016, the council released its first report, entitled “The Path to Prosperity – Resetting Canada’s Growth Trajectory.” In this report, the council stated that its goal was to generate ideas “that will more than double Canada’s current projected growth trajectory.” The council made three recommendations intended to meet that goal:
1. Canada should increase investment into infrastructure through the creation of a Canadian Infrastructure Development Bank.
2. Canada should attract more foreign investment.
3. Canada should increase the rate of immigration.
