Notes on completing the assessment

• This assignment requires you to complete an essay of 3,000 words on topic listed above. The word limit is a maximum, not a target. The word limit excludes a bibliography but includes all other material.
• The assessment is due on (submit via the link in the (Principles of Organisation & Management Moodle page). Policies on penalties for failure to submit and applying for mitigating circumstances are detailed in student handbook.
• An appropriate referencing style should be used (e.g. Harvard or similar). The exact referencing style is less important than it being applied consistently. The assignment should have a bibliography at the end. There is no set number of references. The references should support your argument, not simply be put in to make up the numbers. This means that there should be a significant number of academic references (i.e. at least 12, probably more than 15 in many cases).
• Please sure that you answer the question as asked. For example, question asks you to both to explain how demographic changes impact labour markets and to suggest ways of lessening the impact of these changes.
• Each of these topics covers a contemporary issue in organisations and management that has formed part of a lecture. It is important that you not only use the readings from the lectures, but make use of articles and material you identify from your own readings.It is expected that you will use a broad range of academic journal articles to support your argument and not reply on material from textbooks or slides.
• Whilst you are likely to reference news/information sources to support the use of relevant examples it is expected that the majority of your argument will be formed via evaluating the academic literature. In other words, if your writing is purely descriptive you are not developing an argument but simply describing the situation as it currently stands.
• Although question address specific areas of the literature there is not a ‘correct’ conclusion for each one. The quality of your argument is more important than the exactly which argument you choose to pursue.
• Quality of presentation is important. Check spelling and grammar before you submit the essay. Also, check sentence structure and consider whether you have made your argument clearly. Avoid hyperbole and unreferenced sources.
• The structure of the essay is up to you. There is no need for an executive summary or abstract, but you should include a clear introduction and conclusion. Use diagrams, tables and charts sparingly and ensure that they are only used to support the argument being made.
