COMM 289 Application Logs Grading Rubric

When I evaluate your application logs, you’ll notice that I provide relatively few written comments. As an alternative, please use the following guide to understand how I will grade your logs. If you need further explanation of your grade, then please come see me in my office. Each log is worth up to 40 points.

40-36 Points                           Excellent work. Your log was detailed, organized, relatively free of errors,

and generally well written. You defined and linked numerous concepts from the

theory to original examples, and most importantly you provided insightful analysis.

Your log demonstrates a detailed understanding of the theory, more so than most

students. Overall, your log greatly exceeded my expectations, excellent work. Well

done and keep up the quality work.

35-32 Points                           Above average work. Your log had some detail, was relatively organized,

and provided some insight to the theory. You defined and linked several concepts

from the theory to original examples, though some additional clarity was needed. To

achieve a higher grade, you need to polish your log some, and provide even more

analysis/explanation. Yet, your log does demonstrate a fairly clear understanding of

the theory, more so than many students. Your log exceeded my expectations, nice

job, above average work, please continue.

31-28 Points                           Average work. Your log applied the theory’s primary concepts, though more

detail was necessary to demonstrate your understanding of the concepts. Further,

your log may have been guilty of errors, confused concepts with other theories,

and/or most likely did not link clearly enough your example to the theory. Your log

provided the basics (thesis) of applying the theory, yet did not provide a

detailed/insightful application of the theory. Overall, your log met my expectations

for the assignment. You satisfied the requirements for the assignment, though your

log did not exceed the expectations for the assignment; average work and an average

grade. To improve, use more theoretical concepts in your analysis, explain your

analysis more, provide more examples, and/or reduce your writing errors.

27-0 Points                             Below average work. Your log did not apply the theory’s primary concepts,

or at least not in enough detail. Your ideas also probably needed more clarity and

organization. Further, your log most likely did not indicate a clear link between the

theory and your example, did not apply the correct theory to the example, and/or

generally did not explain how the theory relates to the example. Overall, your log did

not meet my expectations; below average work; I expect you to improve.
