What strategies might you suggest to augment a criminal justice budget?

One of the biggest augmentation that I would add to a criminal justice budget is payment for certain services. I realize that police departments across the United States are tightening their belts as budgets shrink. These departments have started charging for certain services, such as accident reports, police reports and for providing certain calls for service, such as burglar alarm response. I would continue with all of these charges and implement them in my own department. I would also suggest cutting back on providing other non-law enforcement services such as house checks, bank checks, responding to non-reportable auto accidents. I would also charge a fee for individuals who request to be fingerprinted for employment or adoption. Another service that I would charge for is security at school events. Currently our police department sends officers to the high school for security for sporting events which the man hours s are never billed to the school district. I understand the entire community oriented policing concept of today and of the future. However all of these programs and services cost money for personnel and the implementation. So all has to pay for these services that some use and I do not think this is fair. I am not exactly sure where law enforcement went from “enforcing the law” to providing all of these services which are driving up the costs of the services that the police provide, especially in these economic uncert.……………………………………………………………………
