REPORT 2 GUIDELINES: CITIES AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

 

DEADLINE: Due on November 18^th by 10 p.m. You need to upload this into the Dropbox in D2L – as explained in the General Guidelines for All Reports. Start your research for this report early in the semester.

 

TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE: 50 points.

 

REPORT GUIDELINES & GRADING (review the Grading Rubrics and General Guidelines for the Semester Report). Prepare a ten-page report according to the General Guidelines for All Reports on either #1 or #2 using EBSCOhost, JSTOR and/or Sage Journals. You can also start with Google Scholar using the directions I provided in Using Google Scholar for Research file.

 

SUBSTANCE OF THE REPORT (you should pick either topic #1 or #2)

 

1. Topic 1.Search for “sustainable cities,” “urban ecological footprints” and/or “city ecological footprints.” OR

 

2. Topic 2. Search for “cities and environmental justice” and “cities and environmental ”

 

Go to the Briggs Library homepage (http://www.sdstate.edu/library/ ). Click on Find Library Resource Databases. Click on Databases A-Z. Then use any of these databases: EBSCOhost, JSTOR and SAGE Journals – to write an ten-page report on your selected city.

 

LIBRARY DATABASES

 

For EBSCOhost:

 

1. Click on EBSCOhost and then select (put a check in the box for the Academic Search Premier). Remove the checks in the boxes for the e-books and EBSCO MegaFile.
2. Click on continue and then limit the search to articles with “full text” and “scholarly (peer reviewed) journals” – put a check mark in each of those boxes.
3. Then put in a search phrase on one of the topics listed above.

 

For Sage Journals:

 

1. Select Sage Journals.

 

2. Put in your search terms.

 

For JSTOR:

 

1. Select JSTOR.

 

2. Pick Advanced Search and then put a check in Narrow by Articles.

 

3. Then, go farther down to the Journal Filters and put check marks in the boxes for Population Studies, Public Policy and Administration, Sociology, and Urban Studies, and, then you could pick Latin American Studies if you wish.

 

4. Then, put in your search terms.
