In the United states, Los Angeles is the second largest city; it’s marked with a Mediterranean climate and is occupied by people of different ethnic backgrounds. It’s a city that is well known in the entertainment Industry as it hosts the famous Hollywood industry. Geographically, the city is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is located on a large coastal basin. The dietary and lifestyle habits of its inhabitants is characteristic of that of any American i.e. making poor dietary choices that have seen the rise in incommunicable diseases. In addition, the large City has the largest traffic which fills the air with pollutants that bring about respiratory diseases. 2. Windshield Survey (100 points) a. The city is mainly composed of people who are young i.e. between the ages of 13 and 40. Young people in the universities found in the city make up a huge part of the population as they seek education in the big town. The other portion is made up of those working in the entertainment industries that are mostly in their twenties and thirties. People in the town have various weight statuses ranging from those who are overweight and obese. There are also others who are quite healthy as they are more concerned with their appearance and health. In addition the city has a lot of tourists mainly in the summer who are attracted to the sunny NURSING 3 beaches; tourists also flock in the town in order to visit some towns such as the famous Hollywood. In addition, Los Angeles has people from all ethnicities and they makeup its rich culture. Half of the inhabitants are of either Hispanic or Latino origin. b. There are a lot of broken family units most especially from the Latino, Hispanic and the African American families. The divorce rate is quite high with most houses being headed by the mother. To add to this, there is generally very little or no neighborliness as most people mind their own business. There are efforts to change the living conditions of the inhabitants by groups such as the DHS which offers affordable housing to those with insufficient income. Most of the people living in the city are generally Christians and the NURSING 5 town has several cathedrals as well as smaller parishes. Social issues such as teenage pregnancies, drug use and crimes are on the decrease after the government took the necessary measures to curb them. f. Attitude toward healthcare: Use a majority of the questions from Box 6-2 in your text to describe your observations about the attitudes toward healthcare. There are few herbal medical centers with most people seeking medical care the conventional way i.e. in the hospitals. The health resources are well utilized and there is a need to even expand them owing to the huge number of people seeking medical care. Preventive and wellness care systems are in place with the local government partnering with the relevant sectors such as the health, education and industrial sectors so as to raise awareness on health issues.
