bubble diagram
From what you learned about “Bubble Diagramming” in the lecture, please create a bubble diagram of a hypothetical cabin on a lake for you and/or your family. You may create your own program, and relative sizes of the spaces. Don’t worry about exact sizes of spaces, but instead focus on:

Get Help Now!· Relative sizes (for example, you may decide that the living room is twice as big as the master bedroom). Roughly, how big does the livingroom/great room need to be to contain all the functions and furniture you may want?
· Relationships between rooms or spaces – e.g. how do you get from the kitchen to dining, and are they open to each other or do you walk through a door?
· Relation to the context – where is the view, how does the sun shine into each room at different times of the day, and how would prevailing breezes enter decks and the house, etc?
· Where are the entrances, and how do you move through the house?
· Is there a deck or outside yard that you will want to access?
· Describe and indicate at least 6 to 10 spaces on the cabin diagram – this is the cabin of your dreams, so it is your choice of rooms and sizes in the program. Think about what spaces need to be close to which others, and consider the entrance sequence to your lake cabin – for example: how does the kitchen connect to the dining room? When you enter the cabin, what room do you step into? Are bedrooms on the main floor or are they upstairs?
Remember, you are not designing the building yet, you are just creating a bubble diagram of the relative sizes and relationship of the spaces, and how the diagram relates to the outside. Don’t worry about the shape of the rooms/spaces, or the site other than to indicate how the views, daylight, outside spaces might relate to the diagram. You can draw the diagram on a blank – unlined piece of paper and photograph or scan and upload this single file to the Moodle site.
Although you are proposing your own program of spaces and relationships, grading will be based on how well the bubble diagram satisfies the program spaces and relationships that you developed for yourself. You must “wear two different hats” for this exercise: (1) first as an owner/client developing a wish-list of spaces and relationships, then (2) as an architect or designer, developing a solution to that wish list. For example, you may have indicated in your program that you wanted both the living room and the master bedroom to have views of the lake and be a certain size. Does your bubble diagram solve those requirements? How well?
Your completed bubble diagram should provide a solution to all of your program requirements, as well as correctly indicating the relative sizes and relationships between all the spaces. Submit both your program requirements (as the client) and the bubble diagram (as an architect)
I will draw the bubble diagram (the second page in the example) after you write the description paragraph.
