On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding

Indicative Module Content

This module aims to encourage students to develop the knowledge and skills to undertake a critical analysis of international business activity in the global economy so that they are able to apply and critically examine the principles and practice of management operations within organisations.  They will also develop an understanding of the global economy and the impact of internationally competitive markets on business operations, management and organisational change.

Indicative content for global economics includes:

• Globalisation and the changing global business environment.
• International trade theory, policy and practice.
• Multinational enterprise, foreign direct investmentand measures of national competitiveness.
• Economic growth and development, and the emerging economies.
• Regional economic activity (e.g. EU and other regional trade blocs).

Indicative content for business operations includes:

• Operations strategy and operations management.
• The nature of operational processes and the concept of client oriented value chains.
• Optimisation, allocation and resource management issues.
• Design issues relating to operational processes, quality and service delivery.
• Assessing, evaluating and improving performance in processes and functions.
• The role of information and digital technologies in supporting operational processes and functions.
