COU 605 Final Project II Guidelines and Rubric

Overview Final Project II is the creation of a reflection. With all counseling, it is important to know and understand the fundamentals of the theoretical orientation(s) used to help clients. Knowing the foundational elements of a theory guides the counseling process and assists you in decision making. Relevant theoretical knowledge includes, but is not limited to, the history and evolution of the theory, the founder, specific techniques and interventions, and the elements of change. It is also critical to reflect on a counseling session and assess the decision-making process. By doing this, you will be able to dissect the chosen theory, techniques, and interventions used with clients and how they worked or did not work for your clients.

In this project, you will reflect on your family case conceptualization, explaining your reason for selecting and using your chosen family systems theory. You will describe the integration of your theory with the family and justify how it was most appropriate to help the family achieve their goals. You will then follow up with a detailed explanation of your selected systems theory and the fundamentals that separate your theory from others.

You will practice elements of the final project at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. The final product will be submitted in Week Nine.

In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:

 Analyze the evolution of family counseling for informing professional counseling strategies  Analyze systems theories for determining their appropriate application in client case conceptualization

Prompt In your reflection, you will analyze the evolution of family counseling and defend your decision making in your family case conceptualization.

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

I. History A. Describe the evolution of family counseling over time. Consider the time period in which the changes took place and any other relevant

historical information in your response. B. Explain foundational information about your selected systems theory, including information about its founder. C. Describe the evolution of your specific systems theory, including any changes to the theory and its applied approaches.

II. Decision Making A. Explain why you integrated the specific systems theory into your practice. Support your response with information about your integrated

approach to counseling.

B. Explain why this systems theory is most appropriate for your clients’ scenario. Support your response with examples from your session with your clients.

C. Describe the particular elements of the theory that worked well in your session with your clients. Include what you will continue to do and what you will do differently in future sessions.

Deliverable Final Submission: Reflection In Week Nine, you will submit your final project. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final product. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. This submission will be graded with the Final Project II Rubric.

Final Project II Rubric Guidelines for Submission: Your reflection should be 4–6 pages, double-spaced, with one-inch margins and 12-point Times New Roman font, and adhere to the latest edition of APA formatting.
