Crime readings have a lot of different aspects to them and every story I read during this class was different in it’s own way. Before starting this class I never realized how gruesome stories from before could be and how they could affect people now. True Crime is so popular due to the detail and intensity one can feel when reading those kinds of stories, it’s very different and you have to be prepared for what it comes with. Some people like the mystery it portrays when reading it and some people like knowing that the bad guy was caught. I believe it is different for everyone and some are able to read the less gruesome crime short stories. True crime is still very interesting to me but in a way reading more gruesome things that I’ve always known are possible gives me a different insight on it. It’s not bad to enjoy these kinds of readings but we should always know that people did suffer and some of them never will get justice. True crime will always be big in America and it is a great genre to read, I will be reading more readings from the book and possible re reading some of the ones I have already read. I am glad I got the opportunity to learn so many new things by taking this class, it’s challenging because it makes you think hard but very worth it.

Going into week 1, I had not clue what to expect from this class. I knew nothing about literary analysis and I wasn’t a fan of crime writing or stories. I have to admit the class was very informative and interesting. We learned about the different genre of crime writing and how they changed over the centuries. Crime writing is such a popular genre because society as a whole enjoy the story-telling and mixture of fiction and non-fiction of the story, especially when it is captured on the Big Screen. It allows the reader to get into the mind of the people who commit these horrendous crimes. How could two sons kill their parents in the way that the Menendez brothers did in the story by “Dominick Dunn: Nightmare on Elm Drive”. The twist and turns of that story was dark and cold-hearted. I had heard about the brothers but it was my first time reading about them and how they came about killing their parents and why. 

It is no surprise how popular the true crime genre has become, the gore details of murder fascinate many. For me, it’s not something that I would want to follow on a regular, but I have enjoyed the class.
