Categories of Human Rights
Human rights refer to globally defined principles that explain fundamental rights and freedoms which human beings are entitled to, despite their colour, race or creed. As a matter of fact, the concept of human rights has never depended on award through human power and can therefore claim no enforceable might in both local and international courts of justice (Clapham et al., 339). Therefore, human rights exist in distinct categories which foster harmony and easier understanding among the citizens of the world.
Civil and Political Rights
Ideally, these rights and privileges serve to protect individuals from any form of unwarranted malpractice by organizations or even the government. They mostly ensure that an individual can participate in both civil and political life of their country without discrimination (Clapham et al., 339). The examples of these rights are: right to life, freedom from torture, expression and freedom of association and assembly.
Economic and Social Rights
They are mostly based on principles of dignity and individual freedom. It is therefore through socio-economic rights that human beings have a guarantee of accessing the basic conditions of human life (Clapham et al., 339). In other words, the economic and social rights can be referred to as security-oriented rights which include right to education, work and reasonable living conditions such access to food, shelter and clothing.
Environmental and Cultural Rights
It is from the availability of these rights that human beings get the desire to co-exist mutually with each other in order to foster peace and safety among themselves and the environment they live (Clapham et al., 339). In conclusion, the paper has offered insight on the categorization of human rights as fundamentally human and security-oriented. As such, they mostly serve to make the dignity and lives of human beings more worthwhile.
