Early Childhood programs provide families with the peace of mind that their children are well taken care of while ensuring healthy and safety, social, emotional and educational development. The learning community and the culture of the school is an indicator of the joint efforts of the administrators, teachers, parents and community. The center I have chosen is one in which I have worked for since 2013. Under the Knowledge Universe wing, this center is NAEYC certified, follows DOD regulations, Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland State Child care laws and United States Military protocol. Due to the location, sensitivity and privacy of the center and its families – I have been asked to maintain privacy on its location, the name of the center director and the name of the center. For this reason, I will refer to the center as CW and the Center Director as CD. Per their website, Children’s World follows a unique, high quality curriculum that is focused on developmentally appropriate practices and activities that provide children with a variety of learning experiences across the board. They are certified to work with children from 6 weeks to 5 years old and offer year-round care, excluding holidays. Thiscenter prides itself on being family oriented and is “When teachers, parents, and community members form a relationship of equality and shared responsibility, schools become strong and children acquire greater cognitive and social skills” (Scully, et. al).The community served by this center is for DOD civilians and Military personnel who work on campus, and do not have access nor want to use the CDC’s on base, and do not wish to have a family provider or nanny. The income margins vary and there are programs, like NACRAA, that provide stipends for military families for fee assistance. 2

The program offers Full Day, Two Days a Week (Tuesday, Thursday) and Three Days a Week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) options for family as well as extracurricular choices through their Learning Adventures program. Depending on the need families can expect to pay anything between $230.00-$350.00 per week. To complete this interview I chose to observe this center as a parent. Though I worked there from 2013-2015 until maternity leave, I am able to look at this center through the eyes of a parent as well as an educator.
