The ancient Egyptians showed a great veneration for Sirius ” the dog star”, which is situated in the constellation Canis Major or the Greater Dog. But it was not the only star they adored. According to Egyptian mythology the gods descended from Orion and Sirius, the brightest star in the Earth’s night sky. The Ancient Egyptians believed that Isis and Osiris were beings with human form that came from Sirius (Isis) and Orion (Osiris) and which had led to the human race.

As observed from Earth, the Orion constellation is one of the most outstanding in the night sky and has been venerated by the ancient cultures spread throughout the planet. For the Greeks  Orion was one of their demigods, represented as a man. The most recognizable of the constellation are its three major stars: Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka, that make up the so-called “Orion´s belt”. According to Greek Mythology Orion was a giant with superhuman powers, an astute hunter who accompanied by his faithful dog, Sirius, killed animals with an unbreakable club of solid bronze.

In the desert of Nubia researchers have found what could be called one of the earliest stone megalithic aligned structure of mankind’s ancient past that aims to Orion. Located approximately 800 km south of modern day Cairo in an inhospita plain in the eastern region of the Sahara desert is a mysterious archaeological site called Nabta Playa,about 1000 years older than Stonehenge.. The ancient remains of Nabta Playa were first discovered in 1974 by a group of scientists led by Anthropology Professor Fred Wendorf, and the researchers believe that the megalithic stones spread around the area formed in his day part of a ritual center belonging to a civilization, between 6400 and 3400 B. C, just before the Egyptian civilization. It was not a settlement but a ceremonial center. One of the central parts is a circle that has been called the ministonhenge of the desert. The builders of Nabta Playapossessed a deep understanding of astrophysics and mathematics , as well as advanced knowledge on constellations. Robert Bauval and the astrophysicist Thomas Brophy have studied the configuration of this megalithic monument for more than ten years. In his book Black Genesisthey suggest that this was a sort of astronomical observatory, a prehistorical calendar with four pairs of stones as doors , faced two to two: a couple oriented in a north-south direction and the second heading northeast-southwest in which the stone circles form a star map to scale. The six central stones and their different inclinations would also be a part of the observatory. Brophy suggests the hypothesis that the southerly line of three stones inside the Calendar Circle represented the three stars of Orion’s Belt and the other three stones inside the calendar circle represented the shoulders and head stars of Orion as they appeared in the sky. He proposed that in the year 4900 these three central stones lined up perfectly with the three brightest star in the Orion constellation that make up the belt. Is it true that these stones were aligned so perfectly at the summer solstice in those dates? In that case, how could our ancestors build such an advanced  chartof that constellation? The inhabitants of Nabta Playa mysteriously disappeared around the year 3400 B. C. and there are those who believe that they migrated to the area of the Nile valley, where then arose the Egyptian civilization in the 4 th century B. C.

The astronomical knowledge used in Nabta Playais the same that was used in the Egyptian pyramids. Why was the location of Orion  so important to the egyptians?  Egyptian mythology tells how Osiris (Orion) was betrayed and murdered by his brother Seth, whom he holds in a sarcophagus and throws to the Nile. Osiris is god and sovereign of the earth, who introduces the civilization among the primitive men and expands it beyond the Egyptian boundaries. Seth, his brother, is full of envy and conceives the thought of killing him, but his sister-wife Isis watches over Osiris. Seth kills him, then he cuts his body into pieces, scattering them into the waters of the river Nile. Seth’s aim is to hinder the ritual of mummification of Osiris’s body, in order to avoid that the spirit of Osiris might return to his mummified body. After the murder of Osiris,his body is rescued by Isis (associated with Sirius), his stellar consort, who copulated with him and so the goddess became pregnant with the god Horus.When Seth heard about it, he was full of anger and found Osiris and tore his body in “14 parties”, which would be dropped once again to the sacred river of the Egyptians. Isis retrieved from the Nile 13 of the remains of her beloved god, but she never found the piece 14, that was curiously the phallus, symbol of procreation; a suggestive allegory to our condition of “children of Orion”.

The Pyramid Texts, written on the walls of funeral cells in the pyramids, dating back to 2400 B.C., speak of Egyptian pharaoh Unas, the final king of the V dynasty, who ruled for 30 years and finally made his final voyage to the star system Orion. Did pharaoh Unas really travel to space, as argued by the Pyramid Texts?

At this  pointwe must take into account “the Orion correlation theory” that  Robert Bauval and Adrian Gilbert proposed in his book The Orion Mystery,that suggests the three pyramids of Giza are an accurate replica of the stars Alnilam,Alnitak and Mintaka of the Orion´s belt (the Three Marys).The truth is that the link of Sirius and Orion, at least from an astronomical point of view, is undeniable. The Egyptians knew that Orion disappearedinto the horizon before Siriuswhich followed about one hour after (known as Sothis by the Egyptians).Sirius is also ancient Egypt’s inspiration for one of its first Calendars. In theEgyptian Sirius calendar, the year began with the helical rising of Sirius.The heliacal rising of a star occurs annually when it first becomes visible above the easternhorizon for a brief moment just before sunrise, after a period of time when it had not been visible

In Mexico, 56 km from Mexico DF. is located Teotihuacan ( the city of the gods). The construction of the city was attributed to the Quinametzin Giants, a race of giants who, legend says, populated the world during the previous era.  It is said that in 3114 B.C., the gods came from the heavens to Earth in a convention, and this convention occurred in Teotihuacán. As in the pyramids of Guiza, the pìramides that stand in Teotihuacan also seem to be aligned with the belt of Orion.

The Mayas called Orion the “Star tortoise”, and is represented in theCodice de Madrid as a turtle with the glyph three tun (“stone”) on his back.  In the  Popol Vuh, book of the Maya creation, Orion is seen as the first father,  Hun Hunahpú, the god of the Corn.

Was a mere coincidence that both Egyptians ,Aztecs, Maya or Greeks adored the same constellation? were these monuments made to commemorate some extraordinary event  for mankind?

Let us go where it all began, toward the original sources of the mystery, the cradle of civilisation. All that we know from the history of Babylon is thanks to the excavation and that we were able to decrypt a large number of cuneiform texts. For this reason, we know they saw life in a very religious way. They worshipped the gods of the planets of different constellations.  It was a cosmic religion. In 1840, in the north of Iraq in Mosul, a team of archaeologists of the British Museum discovered thousands of clay tablets written during the seventh century B.C. Between the slats found there were two mysterious relics which are known with the name of Babylonian star catalogs. The cuneiform tablets clearly showed that the Babylonian astronomers knew the precise movements of various celestial bodies, what is now known as the zodiac. The Babylonian star catalogs are a compilation of information with extremely accurate mathematical equations. The most surprising are the huge distances between the planets, which produces confusion between archaeologists and researchers who are not able to respond to the question of how a civilization in the past could have had access to this kind of knowledge.  Was it provided for some outerspace beings to whom they called “gods”?

The Babylonians, as well as many other cultures and civilizations of antiquity, already knew Orion. They referred to Orion as the “Loyal Shepherd of Heaven” and called the constellation of Orion “Sipazi Ana” which some researchers translate as “the shepherd of Anu” or “the shepherd of Heaven”. Were the  Babylonian star catalogs  interstellar guides?

In this regard, there is a bas-relief where Orion is represented with bird shape and referred to him as a messenger. In the rock it is the image of a bird behind the guide and its position could indicate that he carried  messages from Earth to Orion. So the real questions are, how did they do it? Do we have to understand everything in a symbolic form? Was it some kind of interstellar communication device? Were the Babylonian star catalogs maps of interstellar communication? Is it possible that the Babylonian gods were actually extraterrestrials messengers from Orion?

Mesopotamia was the first place where these beings arrived to give rise to the first civilization on the planet: the Sumerian. If we have a look at the Sumeriansand Egyptianshieroglyphs and in the Mayan legends, what we see is the same story told in diferent ways in different languages: beings from the stars came to our planet and so was generated our civilization.

Ancient Civilizations described the Orion´s belt as the door to life. When the Mayas, the Egyptians and all those cultures make reference to the begining and end of life, they always relate it with the belt of Orion. Modern astronomers referred to Orion as M42, but ancient humanity knew about this constellation thousands of years before modern day astronomy, without telescopes such as the Hubble. The questions are how and why? Orion’s is a place where stars are born and astronomers referred to it as a “Stellar Nursery.” Does it have to do with the origin of life on Earth? Our ancestors had the feeling that Orion was at the heart of the galaxy and in there were the answer to many questions. Do the stars of Orion represent the source and final destination of mankind? A place where we come from and where we are going…
