Conditions or diseases
The goal of this project is for students to demonstrate their understanding of a topic and apply concepts learned throughout the semester to a feline or canine medical condition or disease selected from the list below. Each student will complete a 1000 word research paper. A good paper will be well researched, informative, and comprehensive. Students will work individually and choose a topic from the list that they wish to explore further. Schedule Thursday 13th of October – Project announced and discussed Sunday 16th of October – Project topic sign-up opens at 6pm SIGN UP IN YOUR SESSION (AN1-5)!! Adenovirus 21.Lyme disease 22.Mast cell tumors 23.Cushing syndrome Students can select and sign up for their topic on Compass. Only 1 or 2 students from each discussion session may do the same topic. Make sure to sign up early if you have a topic preference! Your goal is to provide information about a common companion animal disease or condition of your choosing. Your research paper should incorporate the different aspects of animal biology that we cover in the course (nutrition, behavior, infectious disease, etc.) where appropriate. Each disease or condition will have unique information available; however, suggested sections include: Introduction/background Symptoms Diagnosis Treatment Prevention *Please note that these sections are suggestions; you should not limit your research paper to covering just these topics. Project Requirements 750 – 1000 words (does not include literature cited section) 12 point, Times New Roman font, double spaced 1 inch margins Content must effectively convey information about the selected disease or condition A student’s score can be reduced if grammatical errors, typos or poor writing quality detract from overall readability and clarity of the research paper. At least 5 sources must be used, 3 of which are peer reviewed scientific literature Research paper must have a literature cited section and in-text citations References
