It is very important for health care workers to understand the diagnoses of various cancers, its stages, complication and side effects of treatment and ways to reduce physical and psychological effects of the treatment. Diagnosing Cancer Cancer is a group of several different sicknesses, caused by the collection of genetic and epigenetic alterations. Cancer is a tumor that grows rapidly, not in proportion to the growth of the reminder of the body.

Cancer can be detected in a routine exam, during a screening test or after seeing a symptom. Diagnoses of the cancer are made according to the affected cells or tissues. For example, epithelial cell cancers are carcinomas, connective tissue cancer are sarcomas and blood-forming cell cancers are leukemia (McCance et al., 2010).

A doubtful diagnosis of cancer usually starts with the presenting signs and symptoms. These will differ from the type, location and degree of cancer. Some of the symptoms to look for cancer are an abnormal lump anywhere in the body, bleeding from anywhere or coughing up of blood, voice changes, unexplained pain,breathlessness and change in bowel habits.

Other symptoms are unable to coordiante, seizure, loss of sensation, hematurea, symptoms of anemia like fatigue and breathlessness,liver damange symptoms like jundice and pale stool (Symptoms and side effects of cancer and its treatments , 2011).

Immediate medical attention needed to do further tests and diagnose cancer for anybody who presents with these symptoms. Early detection can save many lives.

It is done according the extent of the original tumor and the percentage of cancer spread in the body.
