Assessment overview

The purpose of this assignment is to study the achievements of Indigenous role models and identify their contributions to Australian society. Within this task students research the life stories of Indigenous role models and the ways in which they have contributed to Australian society.

For this assessment you need to:

Research the contributions of two Indigenous role models. Identify key moments, events and experiences that shaped the achievements of your chosen Indigenous role models.

• You can choose any Indigenous role models that you would like, the link below provides you with an outline of many inspiring Indigenous role models, you can choose from this list, or you can choose your own. This section is 500 words, it is important to try and stick to the word count, you don’t have a lot of words to work with here, so you need to be clear and concise.
• When discussing the key events that have shaped your chosen Indigenous role model, give examples of these key events and experiences.
• To achieve a HD in this criteria, you also need to identify motivations and setbacks for your Indigenous role model.
• Ensure that you support all of your points with supporting research (the reading material is an excellent place to start).

Discuss and summarise how this person’s achievements have contributed to Australian society.

• This comes into criteria 2, and is a critical evaluation of the role model’s achievements, and how these achievements have then contributed to Australian society.
• Discuss key barriers or opportunities to role model’s success.
• Discuss the similarities and differences between the two role models.
• In this section, try and also touch upon cultural bias against indigenous success stories (this comes under HD).
• Support all points with research.

Paragraph 2: Identify key moments, events and experiences that shaped the achievements of your second chosen Indigenous role models. Discuss and summarise how this person’s achievements have contributed to Australian society. 200 words

Paragraph 3: Identify similarities and differences in the achievements and contributions of the two people. 400 words

Conclusion: Again, make this section brief, simply summarise the main purpose/finding, do not introduce any new information. 100 words

• Third person is to be used throughout your summary, though you can use first person for the critical evaluation parts, e.g. ‘I would argue that…’
• You must support your points with research, the unit reading materials are an excellent place to start. You can find the APA referencing for all reading materials in the Learning Materials tab, down the bottom under References.
