Currently, prostitution is a dangerous occupation because it’s dangerous in the sense of medical and health issues for both the prostitutes and their customers. Prostitution is a very quick way to spread sexually transmitted diseases (Chittom). Most times a condom is not used in prostitution. Not using protection leads to “quicker ways to get the clap, AIDS, and H.I.V” (Hart). Sex workers sometimes end up pregnant and they have a hard time finding out the father of their children truly is. It is very important to wear a condom during sexual activities. The sexual contact between prostitutes and married men is one of the leading causes of the spread of AIDS into the general population.

Even though the prostitutes can catch sexually transmitted diseases, there should be a program to give prostitutes special care to treat them and help them prevent getting any diseases (Robert). Legalizing prostitution could significantly reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as Aids (Hart). With prostitution as a back alley business, it is hard to impose any safety precautions for the industry. With no use of health insurance for most prostitutes and the need for business, “decent health care is rarely used and condoms are often not used depending on to desire of the clients” (Natashima).

If prostitution was legalized the government would be able to regulate the business and set rules that would make it safer for both the prostitutes and the customers (Coehn). One thing that could be done to stop the spread of STDs between prostitutes and their costumers is applying mandatory medical examinations, and mandatory treatments for when tests are positive. Although getting regular screenings may be time consuming and expensive, it will be necessary and just the price the prostitution business must pay if they want to continue in a safe manner.
