Angels and Demons is a 138 minute film that falls under the genre of Mystery and /or thriller. The film which was released in June 15, 2009, is an adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel that goes by the same title. Plot summary and setting

The filming of the production took place in two locations: Rome in Italy and Culver City, California where the Sony Pictures studios are located. In the wake of the demise of the Pope the four most likely papal candidates called the “preferitti” are abducted by a revamped secret brotherhood called the illuminati before the commencement of the papal conclave. The murderer of the preferitti leaves clues that point to an hourly brutal killing of each of his hostages.

The culmination of the murders would be marked by the annihilation of the Vatican using antimatter; a nouveau invention. The explosion of the antimatter is set to be triggered by the plummeted magnetic field and low battery power that sustains it by 8.00PM. Professor Robert Landon the Harvard symbologist, is invited in the company of a physicist Vittoria Vetra, who is the daughter of the murdered physicist Mr. Vetra.

Her main interest is the recovery of the one of three antimatter vials that was stolen. The Vatican needs the help of the duo despite the notorious relationship that transpires between him and the Vatican. Together with the physics, the follow clues in an attempt to stop the murders of the remaining three preferitti characteristically left with an ambigrammatic word branded on their corpses.

Robert and Vitera maximize of the few hours left using clues to attempt to track down the clandestine location of the antimatter vial before it destroys the Vatican. The antimatter vial is found just before it detonates and the Carmelengo McKanne saves they day despite the Vatican church suffering some damage.

All the controversy and conspiracy unfolds and Robert and Vitera piece everything together to resolve the mystery behind the masterminded killings.

Discussion

Many aspects of the storyline are utterly fascinating. The conceptualized possibility of antimatter being the new source of energy and its capability is thrilling especially after one of the vials is in the wrong hands. The manner in which the film’s story line weaves science and history so seamlessly to make them look more related that it was actually though it extremely fascinating.

The historical perspective of both the church and the illuminati is enlightening in many ways despite the controversy. These are the main aspects of the film that make it very irresistible. It is imperative to appreciate the extent to which the director attempted to cove………………………..
