Get Help Now!While working with my student I realized how vital recognizing difficulty in reading is for some readers. I learned how to asses areas such as comprehension, listening comprehension, fluency, oral reading, phonemics, vocabulary, spelling and phonics.
The process of reading is like a jig-saw puzzle. You must fit all of the pieces (areas listed above) together in order to see the whole picture.
My practicum student, who I will refer to as M, made it quite clear to me that it is easy for students to progress from grade to grade with only some of the pieces fitting together and never knowing which pieces are missing.
