Lesson: Topic about “friends”

Objectives:

1) Giving students more time to chat and discuss in English

2) Get students familiar with the topic of “friends”

3) Let students get familiar with some adjectives about describing a person

3) Make students feel natural and comfortable to eventually make “friends” by using English as a tool

Class:

  1. Lead in

Introduce today’s topic, and ask them questions: do you know each other well?

  1. Discussions

Organize discussions about what kind of words/expressions can be used to describe a friend.

2.1 How to describe a person – information; adjectives; events (3 groups)

Appearance- bright and beautiful / handsome / young / middle-aged / common / ordinary / pretty / cute / grey hair/ …

Personalities- easygoing / weird /strange/ cold / happy / shy / serious / warm hearted / open / active / quiet / …

Events-married/single/ travel a lot/ likes video taking/…

2.2 Discussion and Description

Organize student in pairs of two, give them 5-10 minutes to talk to each other, after that, ask to them to share with the whole class, “what kind of friend is your partner?”

Encourage them to use the new words/expressions discussed previously.

(Walk around the classroom to see if they have any problem and provide help/feedback.)

  1. Break time

Give time for a rest, for about 10 minutes, and provide personal help to some in-need seniors. Check if they have any difficulties.

  1. Further Discussion

Remain in the same pairing. Ask the students to choose at least 2 questions from below to discuss. Remind that EVERYONE in the group should take turns to share their opinion, and the partner should be patient and nice.
