We have discussed at several points in class the body of work related to goal setting theory. What is the central premise of goal setting theory? What are its historical antecedents and intellectual roots? We have also discussed at least one criticism of goal setting theory (Ordonez et al. 2009). Briefly describe the underlying logic of this criticism. Do you find their critique compelling? Why or why not? Finally, briefly discuss your thoughts on the practical value of goal setting theory relative to other OB concepts we have discussed this semester.

- Responsiveness–responds to the questions and addresses the issues about which the questions ask. This includes thoroughness and completeness in addressing the topics and questions. Although substantive content is a more important criterion, do the answers include examples and applications?
- Insightfulness, thoughtfulness, reflective thinking, and analytical sophistication. Does the essay show particular insight into the material, including good ideas and good observations? Does it show independent, analytical thinking about the ideas and concepts, rather than merely repeating it or reporting it back without reflection or interpretation? Do the essays show logical integration in appropriate ways, recognizing important relations among topics and concepts?
