Consider two Organizational Behavior concepts covered in class such as public service motivation, goal setting theory, transformational leadership, or anything else. Describe each concept focusing on practical implications. Evaluate each concept from the perspective of a practitioner. What does your experience tell you about the value of each theory in the world of public or nonprofit management? Which, if any, concept is more useful? Why?

 Choose one of the other major topics in the course, other than the ones you have covered in response to previous questions. (Students will learn about advice, guidance, and methods for handling many practical challenges in organizations, such as methods of motivating employees, improving quality of work life, developing effective teams, developing and assessing managerial competencies, and more.) Explain the three most important ideas, concepts, or theories from this topic. Reflect upon how they apply to one or two experiences from your own professional life (military).

We have discussed at several points in class the body of work related to goal setting theory. What is the central premise of goal setting theory? What are its historical antecedents and intellectual roots? We have also discussed at least one criticism of goal setting theory (Ordonez et al. 2009). Briefly describe the underlying logic of this criticism. Do you find their critique compelling? Why or why not? Finally, briefly discuss your thoughts on the practical value of goal setting theory relative to other OB concepts we have discussed this semester.

2. Conceptual accuracy–accurate understanding and expression of the concepts and ideas from the readings and class discussion. This includes completeness and thoroughness in expressing the concepts.
3. Presentation–clear, readable writing and wording, with correct grammar. To be clear, if your writing is horrible and everything else is great, your grade will be no greater than a B.
4. Responsiveness–responds to the questions and addresses the issues about which the questions ask. This includes thoroughness and completeness in addressing the topics and questions. Although substantive content is a more important criterion, do the answers include examples and applications?
5. Insightfulness, thoughtfulness, reflective thinking, and analytical sophistication. Does the essay show particular insight into the material, including good ideas and good observations? Does it show independent, analytical thinking about the ideas and concepts, rather than merely repeating it or reporting it back without reflection or interpretation? Do the essays show logical integration in appropriate ways, recognizing important relations among topics and concepts?
